New year, new books… and a new season of Morning Book Buzz! Jen, Kate, and Miriam kicked off season 5 with their 1st reads for 2024—and thanks to our lively audience chat, we found out some librarians’ 2024 reading goals such as: “I would love to read more of the ARCs I have.” and “My resolution is to make time every day to read a physical book. So far it’s been a great way to start my day—coffee and a book.”  We couldn’t agree more!

Happy New Year and Happy Reading! Scroll below to check out your MBB hosts’ title selections, and some librarian book picks, too.

What were our book picks to kick off the year? We revealed all on Instagram:

Your MBB Hosts' 1st Reads of 2024

Supercommunicators
How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection

Jen’s pick!

Talk about a supercommunicator! Jen loves author Charles Duhigg’s accessible writing style; he has a talent for explaining the science behind why humans behave the way we do. There is no better author to communicate to readers and listeners the science of. . . communication itself!

Catalina
A Novel

Miriam’s pick!

A year in the life of the unforgettable Catalina Ituralde, a wickedly wry and heartbreakingly vulnerable student at an elite college, forced to navigate an opaque past, an uncertain future, tragedies on two continents, and the tantalizing possibilities of love and freedom.

Come and Get It

Kate’s pick!

Also a January 2024 LibraryReads pick! From the celebrated New York Times bestselling author of Such a Fun Age comes a fresh and provocative story about a residential assistant and her messy entanglement with a professor and three unruly students.

From the MBB Chat: Librarian 2024 Reading Picks!

Mrs. Quinn's Rise to Fame
A Novel

A huge-hearted, redemptive coming-of-old-age tale, a love story, and an ode to good food.
