Fernando Ruiz studied Fine Arts at Caldwell College in New Jersey. After graduating, he attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. Ruiz graduated in 1994 and began his career as a freelance illustrator and comic book artist. Since 1994, his artwork has appeared regularly in various comic books published by Archie Comics. He has drawn and written for "Archie", "Archie & Friends" and was one of the main artists on "Archie's Weird Mysteries" which was based on the DIC cartoon.
