1,000 Horses for the King

Illustrated by Gracey Zhang
Librarian, reviewer, and podcast host Travis Jonker and Caldecott Honoree Gracey Zhang spin a humorous tale about the hijinks that ensue when a greedy king demands 1,000 horses.

There once was a terrible king who wanted everything. And everything he wanted, he took. So when he decided that he needed 1,000 horses, his wish was the kingdom's command. But 1,000 horses are . . . a lot of horses. And soon the king realizes that he has more than he bargained for.

Author and librarian Travis Jonker and Caldecott Honoree Gracey Zhang have created a classic tale filled with humor and surprise that illustrates how possessions and riches mean nothing if you don't have a friend by your side.
Travis Jonker is the author of The Ship in the Window, illustrated by Matthew Cordell, and the author and illustrator of Just One Flake and Just One Wave.
