Faulkner: The Past Never Dies

An ALA Film Program

Get ready to embark on a cinematic experience that will transport you into the enigmatic world of one of literature’s most celebrated titans—William Faulkner.

Penguin Random House is proud to present an exclusive, one-time ALA screening of  “Faulkner: The Past Is Never Dead”, the first feature-length documentary to peel back the layers of this Nobel Prize winner’s nuanced legacy.

Narrated by Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, this film weaves together the intricate tapestry of Faulkner’s life, his groundbreaking works, and his indelible impact on today’s conversation about race.   Critics and audiences alike have hailed the film as a triumphant masterpiece, a powerful and audacious exploration of one of the most influential voices in American literature.

Immediately following the screening, Tyson Koenig, special collections librarian from Southeast Missouri State University and filmmaker Anita Modak-Truran will share insights and anecdotes about making the film and the important role librarians play in documentary filmmaking. Free swag provided.

Sunday, June 30th • 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM • SDCC, Room 22

The Battle for the First Amendment: Why You Can’t Afford to Remain Neutral

Organizations like the Freedom to Read Foundation help libraries and librarians educate themselves and their community about how the First Amendment protects everyone’s right to read, think and write. No one can remain passive in the face of these attacks on the freedom of speech; not publishers, authors, librarians, or our patrons.

Sunday, June 30th • 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM • SDCC, Room 3

Panel: Digital Audio Books and Library Market
