Across America, book bans are on the rise, threatening to silence the voices of authors and deprive us of the stories that help us understand ourselves and the world around us.
The American Library Association reported the number of titles targeted for censorship surged 65% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching the highest levels ever documented in more than 20 years of tracking. 47% of titles targeted for censorship in 2023 represent the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals.
