When the flowers begin to bloom and the world starts turning green, animals everywhere are born. Some have lots of brothers and sisters. Some have none at all. Some are born with soft, warm fur, while some are born with smooth scales. Some can walk right away—others need a little help! As with Il Sung Na's previous offerings, A Book of Babies is filled with rich illustrations, endearing animals, and a spare text—all wrapped up in a gorgeous package.
Kirkus starred review, November 15, 2013 “Sweet, stimulating illustrations offer up baby basics for bedtime.”
The New York Times Book Review “If the Seoul-born artist Il Sung Na hasn’t already charmed you with Hide & Seek and A Book of Sleep, his latest book . . . will probably do the trick.”
The Boston Globe “Il Sung Na’s illustrative art is so joyous, so jubilantly colorful, it feels celebratory and poetic even when the story is simple and spare.”
Il Sung Na is the author-illustrator of many books for children, including A Book of Sleep; Bird, Balloon, Bear; That's My Carrot, and A Book of Babies, all of which received at least one starred review. The New York Times has praised that Il Sung "brings fresh energy to the familiar." Originally from South Korea, Il Sung studied illustration at Kingston University in London, and now lives in Kansas City with his wife, where he spends time teaching illustration courses at the Kansas City Art Institute.
