On November 17th the American Library Association (ALA) announced the six books shortlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, awarded for the previous year’s best books written for adult readers and published in the United States. The titles shortlisted for fiction are A Burning by Megha Majumdar (Knopf), Deacon King Kong by James McBride (Riverhead Books), and Homeland Elegies by Ayad Akhtar (Little, Brown, and Company). The titles shortlisted for nonfiction are Fathoms: The World in the Whale by Rebecca Giggs (Simon & Schuster), Just Us: An American Conversation by Claudia Rankine (Graywolf Press), and Memorial Drive: A Daughter’s Memoir (Ecco).

The two medal winners will be announced on  Thursday, February 4, 2021, 3-4pm CST at the RUSA Book and Media Awards Virtual Ceremony. Everyone is invited to attend for this complimentary virtual event. Register Now!
