The shortlist for the 2018 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction were announced on October, 24th. The titles shortlisted for fiction are Washington Black by Esi Edugyan (Knopf), The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai (Viking), and There There by Tommy Orange (Knopf). The titles shortlisted for nonfiction are The Line Becomes a River by Francisco Cantú (Riverhead), Dopesick by Beth Macy (Little, Brown and Company), and Heavy by Kiese Laymon (Scribner).

The two medal winners will be announced at the Reference and User Services Association’s Book and Media Awards (BMAs) event at the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Seattle on Sunday, January 27, 2019, 5-7 p.m.
