National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was launched in 1985 by the American Cancer Society with the goal of increasing early detection of the disease. In the ensuing decades, the international campaign, with the pink ribbon as its symbol, has made great strides in its fundraising for research into cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of breast cancer.
