Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, THE MARTIAN is a science-fiction film starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain, with Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig, and Jeff Daniels in supporting roles. The film is scheduled to be released on November 25, 2015 in 3D.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. On the contrary, Watney has survived, finding himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. He knows, however, that even if his survival was somehow made known, there is no conceivable prospect for a rescue.
