The Black Hour, Lori Rader-Day’s debut novel, a July LibraryReads pick, is also one of my personal favorites this year. The story follows Amelia, a sociology professor gravely wounded in a campus shooting who, after returning the following school year, attempts to investigate the motive behind the shooting (or perhaps the absence of one) along with her new teaching assistant, Nathaniel.

To celebrate the publication, a friend of the author designed t-shirts that display the ficitional college featured in the book. They are not only the perfect back-to-school shirt, but also a great conversation starter.  (Enter here to win a t-shirt and a copy of The Black Hour.)

If you haven’t read it yet, put it on your TBR pile; it does not disappoint:

“An exceptional debut…. An irresistible combination of menace, betrayal, and self-discovery.”
—Publishers Weekly STARRED REVIEW

“An unputdownable read.”

“Captivates from page one…. This reviewer was bowled over by the novel’s alternating points of view, superb storytelling, and pitch-perfect take on academia.”
