carrieCARRIE is perhaps Stephen King’s most famous novel—the one that put him on the horror map. Who can forget Sissy Spacek’s chilling performance as teenage outcast Carrie White in the original 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma? The girl who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Spacek was so convincing in her reign of terror she was nominated for an Oscar.

A gruesome re-imagining of the classic horror tale Carrie will hits theaters October 19. Anchor will also publish a Carrie movie tie-in edition (9780345806819) on September 24.

The remake of the supernatural thriller promises to be just as frightening as the original. Bloody prom scene and all. It  will star Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo, 30 Rock) as Carrie and Julianne Moore as her very religious mother and be directed by Kimberly Peirce.

In other Stephen King film news, Warner Bros/CBS recently announced it will be co-producing a feature film remake of the horror maverick’s other grand opus THE STAND. It will be directed by Ben Affleck.
