Who doesn’t love the librarians of the Desk Set?? Bunny Watson their fearless leader, played by Katherine Hepburn, is especially one to love filled with smarts, wits and moxie. The reference library in the film is loosely modeled on NBC as the exterior shots in the film are of Rockefeller Center. In the film the company is called the “Federal Broadcasting Network.” To help employees with their extra work brought on by a company merger the network has installed “electronic brains” computers. The one that lives in the reference department is a dreaded EMERAC,  that was created by Richard Sumner (Spencer Tracy) who will in the end win Bunny’s heart. In the end the computer cannot solve all the answers only a librarian can. Isn’t that always the way?
