We just loved this idea and movement and wanted to share with you that Random House Children’s Books has launched Choose Kind (ChooseKind.tumblr.com), an anti-bullying campaign inspired by R.J. Palacio’s debut novel, WONDER (Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers). A word-of-mouth sensation from the start, WONDER tells the story of Auggie, a fifth grader with a facial deformity who attends a mainstream school for the first time.
The Choose Kind campaign encourages families, students, educators, and readers of all ages to combat the nationwide rise in bullying with everyday acts of kindness.
Each section of the site offers an interactive opportunity, including a PLEDGE which can be signed.
In addition to the pledge, visitors to the site can SHARE a story via a short post about an experience with bullying and the power of kindness, WATCH the book trailer, READ reviews and quotes including from Nicholas Sparks and several Newbery Honor-winning authors, CONNECT to the novel’s social media channels and the author on Tumblr / Twitter, and find RESOURCES including digital stickers and web badges, as well as links to other anti-bullying efforts.
