Debuting in select theaters later this month, “Waiting for Superman,” a documentary on America’s educational system made by the same guy who brought us “An Inconvenient Truth” is already causing a lot of controversy. I won’t even try explaining the discussion’s myriad complexities here, but New York Magazine has done a pretty swell job of it in their latest issue with a piece by John Heilemann called “Schools: The Disaster Movie.”

The documentary largely centers around Geoffrey Canada, an activist based right here in Harlem, whose book, Fist Stick Knife Gun, has just been reissued and graphic novel-ized by Beacon Press.
